I suppose these are the basic questions which blog owners must ask themselves. This is in addition to information gleaned from other tools and sites like Alexa.

There are numerous tools available on the net, both free and paid to carry out web analytics. But I have found Google analytics is the best. Moreover it is free (you start paying if you are a massive website with thousands of pages). There is another strong reason why I tend to choose Google Analytics. The search market is more or less controlled by Google. The keyword world is Google-centric and this ties up well with your own keyword strategy. This means Google Analytics, keyword analysis, AdWords and AdSense campaigns, all work in tandem. You only have to be smart enough to put the pieces together.
Google Analytics for Blogger and WordPress
There is no way you can escape from the iron grip of Google. Blogger is a great blogging site which belongs to these guys. This means your blog is already optimized for use with Analytics. As regards WordPress, which I suppose is a big player in blogging circles; you need to do a bit to get Analytics to your blog. But it is not difficult. I would consider Analytics critical for your blog’s success. You will get to know about things which you never knew earlier. You would be able to find out which posts drive away visitors and which make them delve further. The bounce rate, as the term is known, can tell you more about your blog than anything else.
What do you do with the Analytics?
The most important function of Analytics is to understand the dynamics of your keywords. You will know which keywords attract most visitors and where they come from. For example, if you submit a guest post to a certain blog, you will immediately be able to find out how many visitors drop into your blog from there. You can then refine your strategy to attract more visitors. Google Analytics is not theory but a solid practical tool. A favorite practice among bloggers is to join forums in social media sites to attract visitors. This is a time consuming process and ultimately you never know if the forum posting generated any traffic. If you add Google Analytics to your blog, you will instantly come to know about the traffic to your site. You can modify your strategy immediately rather than work in the dark.
Knowing what’s happening inside your blog and understanding the behavior of visitors is important. This can only happen if you have some analytic tool to assist you. Google Analytics is a fantastic tool for this purpose.
